I love painting trees and water. Water is one of the most challenging subjects to paint. It is a color, you can see through it, it acts like a mirror and reflects everything thing around it, it bends and on top of that it's moving! I've painted a lot of rivers only to learn something new every time. The Green River series ended up being historical as the lodge pole pines were attacked by the beetle kill during the great drought in the Rocky Mountains and don't exist in these scenes any more. I'm blessed I was there to see their glory. When I was doing some plein air painting, just beyond in the open field to my surprise there was a herd of elk grazing just around the corner. I didn't see them until I was finished painting. Yes, I saw many trout jumping in these streams.
